Matrixed Systems was an exhibition initially running from May 29 to June 29, 2026 at GLO Modern, 45 Market St, New York, NY. It was subsequently extended to July 31, 2026. This page preserves one record of what happened based on 31,889 observations deemed notable over the course of the first month during which the gallery was actively observed and documented 24/7. Afterwards, documentation ceased and a new summary of the preceding weeks was proposed each day for the remainder of the exhibition.
The event began in diverse indoor environments characterized by a significant presence of electronic equipment, including computer monitors, keyboards, and televisions. During this initial phase, individuals were documented interacting with these devices, such as a woman operating a remote control or another person engaged in a video game, while others were simply present near computers. The sequence then broadened to include social scenes, observing groups of people conversing, as well as distinct moments like a person dressed as a nun moving through a space and a woman cleaning. Following this, the focus shifted towards communal viewing and recording, with crowds gathered around large television screens, and individuals actively using video cameras. A period of transit was then recorded, featuring numerous perspectives from within cars and trains, capturing reflections and external landscapes. The latter part of the event predominantly depicted rooms with white walls adorned with various forms of text and imagery on large sheets of paper, signs, and books. This frequently occurred in settings that also consistently featured televisions and windows, with many such rooms specifically noted to have air conditioning, highlighting a prevalent motif of technological display within climate-controlled, often visually stark, interior spaces.
